I was so thrilled that this brand new family of three came out to my studio from Chicago. I know getting packed up to leave the house with a kid is hard enough, throw in a new baby for first time parents and I know what chaos this is! (Been there, done that). But this family made it all look flawless!

They had the sweetest little girl – her eyes peeked open for a few photos right at the end of the session, too! She had the softest amount of peach fuzz on top of her head and the chubbiest cheeks. I knew I had to get some detail macro shots of all of those feature (that change way too fast. Amirite, moms?).

Plus, the bonus for me is that I get to see her grow up over this first year! She’ll be back for her 6 month and 1 year photos and I couldn’t be more excited to get to see her again.

Brand spanking new families are such a special thing. Us seasoned parents know exactly what they’re about to experience.

Excitement.

Love.

Fear.

Sleepless nights.

Anxiety.

Happiness.

As a Chicago newborn baby photographer, I am lucky enough to be able to photograph these moments a lot and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Plus, handing your baby off to some random person to pose this new life isn’t an easy decision so I am beyond honored when a family chooses me to photograph those early moments.

I met this family a few weeks prior for their maternity photos and it was soooo, so cold! Buuuut that’s the luck of the draw when your due date is in the middle of winter. Even though I was shivering, they still came out beautiful.

This sweet boy was so good to me and was super pose-able for me (meaning he was sleepy haha). I wanted to keep him!

My studio is located in downtown Lake Zurich IL and I have everything possible stocked and ready to go for your session. Hats, props, wraps…you name it and I have it just for your baby’s photos. Since they are photographed around the 2 week mark, newborn photos are best booked before baby is here to ensure you have room on my calendar. Most moms book during their second trimester, however I can try to squeeze you in if didn’t realize the timeline of when to schedule and baby is already Earthside (we’ve all been there).

I am always so happy when I see this family coming up in my calendar. Their oldest daughter was a few years old to now, their second, at nearly the same age. I love seeing family grow and me getting to tag along a bit for the ride.

These sisters are sassy and sweet and they remind me a lot of my own girls. The oldest has a big personality and is so funny to hear the things she has to say. Little sister is a bit more reserved and shy…but when that shell comes down LOOK OUT. She was having a blast with me by the end.

Plus, that light. That beautiful light that I love for sunset photo sessions. It came out in full-force for us at the end.

Plus, moms…let’s all agree that we need to get in photos more! And not a stinking selfie! I see the photos of mom with her babies from this session and see how much they adore her and how much she is in the moment with each of them. I know that’s something I would love to have for myself. So let’s hop out from behind the camera and get IN the photos with out babies, ok? K thanks!

I’ve known this family for yeeaaaars. Jess and I first met in college where we swam together. Her little guy is a “runner” as she and Josh like to say. That high energy totally works for me and I can match it during their session. I am usually a sweaty mess by the end, but that’s ok. Anything for photos, right?

Also, let’s be honest. I am always a sweaty mess when I’m photographing families, chasing kids or not.

So parents, don’t worry. I know photos are super stressful, but know that I can handle your kiddo. Shy or outgoing. Crazy or reserved. Or somewhere in between all of those. The teacher in my knows what to do. And 10-ish years of acting like a fool behind the camera will do that, too.

Anywho, we had an overcast fall day, but it all worked out. The sun peeked out for us at the tail end of their session when they were on the docks, so I got about 5 minutes of sun. But it was still a beautiful session. <3

Sidenote: I love his blonde, curly hair. It made the most perfect little halo of blonde around his head.

The crazy thing? As I write this mom just had baby #2! They are making their way into my studio this week for their newborn photos and I cannot wait to share those with you, too.
