Aaaah, the milestone 1 year session. They’re pulling up. Standing. Some are walking. And their personalities shine more than ever. Of course, the cake smash at the end is a personal favorite ~~because I get to eat cake~~ since the reactions the kiddos have to the cake is always different. Lot of them cry. Some love it. And some really don’t care about it one way or another.

She loved what I call my “special box”. I started calling it that to get the older kids excited about sitting or standing on a box. After some time I’ve learned it truly is magic because kids love this thing, regardless of age. Birthday girl loved it. Her older sister loved it. It’s a mainstay at all of my sessions!

But this one was so sweet and loved her mommy and daddy. She and mom had an awesome cuddling moment (all kids need a break during their session) and I was so glad I happened to be standing right where I was when it happened. Pure magic, right there. You’ll know the photos when you see them below.

1 year old photographer Chicago IL

So this little dude turned one. It’s always bittersweet for me when my baby planners “graduate” because I go from seeing them several times in a year to seeing them less often. Lucky for me I see this family again in a few months for outdoor fall photos, so it’s not super sad (yet)!

And yes, he’s had this epic head of hair since he was born! I kid you not, he has some luscious locks as a newborn and that thick head of hair is still going strong. Growing strong? Whatever. And the love he has for his sister (and his sister for him) has unwavered since that newborn session, too. I know if you search back in older blog posts you will find his other sessions and see exactly what I am talking about.

And his little cake smash outfit. Can we talk about this for a second? LOVE IT! And the family was awesome enough to donate it to the studio. Any little boys out there turning 1? I have a new cute outfit for you to wear!

Deer Park IL family photographer

This session was a first for me. In a good way!

In talking with mom and reading their questionnaire, I assumed this was a family session just like any other. We meet at this location in Deer Park, IL and all is well. We started out with some family poses and went into my normal flow. We moved to a new location and then everything changed…

And then, everything changed. I am trying to decide who was more surprised with this, me or her. I was setting up for another shot and grabbing the kids, so I had NO idea this was coming. I was definitely in shock when I realized what I was witnessing, but in a good way. Like I said this was a first for me and it was a great moment! After the excitement settled down, we get back into things and finished the session. I remember when I was planning the session0 mom told me she really wanted a photo of the four of them walking together, not looking at the camera. I do a mix of posed and unposed in my session, and natural posing I really enjoy. So of course, I had a blast with the session.

This last photo was the one they desperately wanted. A natural, walking photo. Unposed. Unscripted. Real life. This is them and it makes my heart sing! It resonated with them, as well, and it now hangs as a 20×30 stunning framed print in their home. I know they were in the process of moving when they received it, but I cannot wait to see it hung in their house! I took a quick cell photo and posted it on my Facebook page when it was delivered to my home it because it was so impressive. Be sure to check it out!

Long Grove IL baby photographer

Baby number three for this family. And it’s a girl!!!!! I know mom was super excited, but I was too so I could break out some girly stuff for them. But not tooooo girly, of course. Plus I had a bunch of new props that I was excited to use for them, so I couldn’t wait to see this sweet thing in the studio.

Also, if you’ve ever been to my studio you’ve seen the giant black and white canvas of a baby hanging right in my entryway. He is now middle child of this amazing family and you’ll see him below in the sibling photo. He was pretty timid to be around his new sister, but it made for some sweet photos.

I loved having this family back for another newborn session – I cannot wait to see baby A grow up! In the meantime, I’ll wish this family lots of sleepy dust with three littles now in the house.
