V Family | Outdoor family photography

Once the weather is nice and things green up I am so happy to get back to photographing consistently outdoors. The photography studio in Lake Zurich, IL is great, don’t get me wrong. But I do love the look of outdoor family photography, as well. (Or in this case, sibling photos). Plus, when the fall comes the colors are just amazing. Don’t even get me started on my love of fall photos outdoors.

I love meeting new families and this one was no exception. They had two beautiful kids. The boy was in looove with his sister. No joke. Most of those big smiles were just for her. Yes, I’d love to claim that I caused them to happen, but I can’t. Naturally, they also had a little princess on their hands. I was able to dive into my love of Disney (comes with the territory of having a brother work there) when they broke out the princess dress. She was fun to photograph, but she definitely took on another personality with the dress on.

With the fall quickly approaching, my busy season is about to kick into full gear from August-Thanksgiving. Pregnant mommas – booking early in your 2nd trimester is ideal to ensure you’re on my calendar. For family/sibling/milestone sessions, scheduling at least 6-8 weeks in advance is key. Or for fall sessions, NOW is the time so please don’t wait if you’re hoping to schedule a photography session with me.

The weather is finally nice, so you know what that means? Outdoor sessions are in full swing! Granted, I think this has been the rainiest season we’ve ever had and I have been rescheduling sessions just about weekly. But it’s all good – no problems working anyone in and I’m right on track with juggling sessions, editing, and home life this summer. Whew!

A few weeks ago I met up with the S family again in the Lake County area. I cannot believe how big this dude is getting! I photographed his newborn, 3 mo, 6 mo, 9 mo and 1 year photos and was so happy to get to see him again for this mini session, as well. He is always on the go and I loved seeing him explore the surroundings. Especially those boats on the water. He was all about them! Especially the ones going fast and zooming by.

Aren’t they just beautiful? Also, can we talk about little Xander’s lock of hair at the nape of his neck. Gah! I love it! I know mom was afraid to cut it and have it disappear. I knew I had to grab one of those little detail shots so she always had a sweet nice reminder of it. I loved how the golden hour was in full swing once we hit the docks, too. It’s that glowy, warm light that I just love for my sessions! Thanks, S family, for allowing me to photograph you again! It was a blast!

After a bunch of girls, I finally had a boy in the studio! After several sessions filled with pinks and purples, flowers and tiebacks, and other girly things, it was nice to break away and get those boy colors and props back out of the prop room and into my posing flow. Once again, I was lucky to have an amazing sleeper. And he was just oh-so cute with those precious little fat rolls! Plus, his brother is super adorable, as well. I just know he’s going to be an awesome big brother.

I first met this family last fall when I photographed their oldest little boy. A short time later they contacted me to book their newborn session. I was so excited for them! I really enjoy seeing families grow and to be able to create special photos that match their style (something I do for each family that I photograph).

So it’s crazy to think that some of my first-ever newborn clients are coming back to me for their second kids, now. I have a whole bunch of them lined up for round 2 of newborn photos in 2015 and I couldn’t be more happy. One: I love seeing everyone and their kid’s growth over the yers. Two: it lets me see my own growth over the years. Three: newborns. Duh.

I’ve known this family since college and I photograph them a few times a year, so they know the routine. Even their oldest “gets it” and loves to be photographed. Plus they’re all adorable, so I’ll photograph them any day of the year. Their newest one slept like a rockstar and barely made a peep during her whole session. Dream come true! They drive to my studio from the city of Chicago, so it’s always flatter to me they love my work enough to make the drive a few times a year for photos.
